Can You Tell the Difference Between Wear Resistance and Scratch Resistance?

Many people often confuse wear resistance and scratch resistance when choosing flooring, but these are actually two completely different concepts. Wear resistance refers to the ability of the flooring to withstand long-term abrasion, while scratch resistance refers to the surface's ability to resist scratches.

Wear resistance depends on the thickness of the wear layer. Typically, a 0.5mm wear layer is suitable for light commercial use, while a 0.3mm wear layer is ideal for residential use.

Scratch resistance, on the other hand, mainly depends on the surface hardness of the flooring. Since the wear layer of SPC flooring is relatively soft, most SPC floors may show some marks when scratched by sharp objects, making them less scratch-resistant.

To enhance scratch resistance, some brands add harder materials like aluminum oxide particles or ceramic beads to the UV coating. While this improves scratch resistance, it also reduces the transparency of the UV coating, resulting in less vibrant colors and a slightly dull appearance.

At Emosin, our SPC flooring balances UV coating transparency with scratch resistance. Our floors not only offer vibrant colors and a wide selection, but they also excel in both wear and scratch resistance. Even when scratched with hard objects like keys, our floors won't show any marks.
